What Does This Activity Teach?

Students will practice forming and combining sentences using subordinating conjunctions, including:

• Time Words: Before, after, while, until, since, as, as soon as, now that, when, once, whenever.
• Reason Words: Because, though, although, whereas.
• Conditional Words: If, unless, even if.

 

By engaging with these activities, students will:

1. Complete Sentences: Fill in the blanks with appropriate subordinating conjunctions.
2. Create Original Sentences: Form sentences using given conjunctions.
3. Combine Clauses: Practice connecting ideas to form complex sentences.

 

How It Works

1. Set Up the Cards: Place nine (9) cards face down on the table.
2. Roll the Double Dice: A student rolls the dice, which land on a shape.
3. Match and Read: The student turns over the card with the corresponding shape and reads (or listens as the instructor reads) the question that matches the number on the inner die.
4. Answer and Practice: The student answers the question, completing or creating a sentence.
